This was at the Beaverhill Bird Observatory. Actually, just north of the buildings pretty close to the endless grass. It's pretty hilarious to imagine this guy any thinner. Now I almost want to spook one, but I'd feel really bad after I finished laughing at it.

Awesome sighting—where was it? I just got back from about twenty days of doing rigorous, systematic surveys for owls... and I didn't see (or hear, nevermind photograph) a single LEOW... And if you think it looks skinny here, you should see when they get spooked—they're "defensive" strategy is to try to look like a poplar sapling... tall and THIN

Hey Joel — I got a chance to go see this show today, and just wanted to let you know that both Lisa and I really enjoyed it! Although the gallery was full of people waiting to get into the library (we got there just before it opened), we were able to get a good look at all of the prints, and noticed a couple other people enjoying them as well.

I recognized some of the images, and it was neat to see a whole collection of what is obviously an on-going photographic interest/project for you. Lisa and I both came to the independent conclusion that the "Too Fast To Freeze" print was our favourite of the show—such great colour, detail, and contrast between the water and the ice.

Again, congrats on the terrific show!

P.S. Lisa was dropping some pretty heavy hints about some of your custom photo jewellery... We may have to talk...

Thanks Jonathan, I think that's my favorite part too. I find it easier when the surrounding landscape isn't that interesting or attention-grabbing (it was a really dull day). Then I can start to focus on the smaller details and then interesting stuff starts to come from that.

Beautiful—I especially like the first one with the contrasting steel-grey background. I love the challenge of finding simple, beautiful compositions out of tangles of grass, branches, etc. Thanks for sharing!
