Updates are Few and Far Between

Why have the updates been so slow this summer and fall? There are many reasons, but one of the main ones is that I’ve taken on a large graphic design project with Alieo Games, an Edmonton startup working on educational games. Specifically (at the moment), an online creative writing game for kids. And it’s been a lot of fun. I’m really happy with how it’s shaping up, and I’m working with great people!

But even an exciting project like this can not stop my photography. It has, however, cut down on my computer time for processing pictures and blogging, and I’m not planning on doing any shows this Christmas. If you’re looking for prints, you’ll have to email me, talk to Tix on the Square, or the Daffodil Gallery. So the backlog of pictures is growing on my computer, and I’m excited to share them with you as I get to them.

I’ll try to post when I can, and I expect things will pick up around here again next year.

New Jewelry in Stock

If you’re looking for some new jewelry, both Tix on the Square and Daffodil Gallery have new earrings, pendants, and cufflinks to check out. When I dropped them off at Tix today, one sold right as I was unpacking it and the staff were also threatening to buy a bunch — so get them while you can!

The photo above is from Sandy Beach, where I met some of my family this past week. It was great to canoe out on the lake with my brother, chatting and taking pictures of the many birds. This is a Black Tern feeding its young.

Symbiotica — A collaborative exhibition of poetry and visual art.

Thursday from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Daffodil Gallery

Philip Jagger and I will have a piece on display that we collaborated on over the last month or so. There are a bunch of other collaborations there as well — should be fascinating! Hope to see you there!

And, completely unrelated to Symbiotica, here’s a shot from Vancouver Island last fall.

Jewelry, Gifts, and Galleries

Have you bought all your Christmas gifts yet? A lot of people I’ve talked with know about my photography but not a lot of people know I make jewelry. And I haven’t mentioned it very much here. I have pendants, earrings, cufflinks and tie clips available (as well as prints) at Tix On The Square (right in Churchill Square) and Daffodil Gallery (on 124 Street and 104 Ave). Both are great places to browse with lots of art and friendly people to chat with.

Also, I’ve been doing some updating in my online gallery (which has been neglected for a while). I’m increasing the size of the galleries so you can get a better idea of the range of my work. So far I’m done Surroundings which is probably my most standard landscape type stuff, Altered which is full of things people have made and ways we’ve changed our world, and finally Rooted which is full of trees and plants. If you’ve looked through my galleries before much of it will be familiar, but I think all of you will find a few you haven’t seen before. Enjoy!

Christmas Craft Sales

Today’s post is brought to you by a cute and surprised mink (Neovison vison).

On Thursday, December 15th, I’ll be at the Daffodil Gallery for a few hours in the middle of the day. I may bring some small prints with me to augment the lovely gallery wraps and pendants they already have there. This is part of their 12 days of Christmas where artists will be in attendance.

Edit 1:
Camrose is done and was a great success! Thanks to everyone who came out. I hope you all enjoy your prints and pendants!

A Bloomin’ Gallery Show

The Daffodil Gallery

This Saturday, August 13 from noon to 4pm is the opening for “Blooming“, a new show at the Daffodil Gallery. I’ve got two pieces in this show — one you’ve seen before if you’ve been to the gallery, and the other is new for this show. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be there for the opening, but even without me the gallery is a relaxing and enjoyable place to go and see new art.

Kasaa Gallery

Also coming up soon is the VAAA Open Photo Exhibition. The opening will be Thursday, August 25th from 6 to 8pm at the Kasaa Gallery in the Northern Jubilee Auditorium. I am excited to have two pieces in this show, which is a juried show open to all Alberta photographers. There should be quite a variety of photo styles there.

I may have to get a calendar up on the site to keep track of exhibitions and shows for those interested.

But where are all the photos from BC?

I’m getting there slowly. Everything else is pretty crazy right now, so they’ll start trickling out over the next week or two. To get started, here are some cracked rocks in Medicine Lake in Jasper National Park. This was taken after my first day on the road, which is always a very liberating experience.

Cute Bear with Messages

This little grizzly cub wants to let you know that this is the last week to see my photos at Elm Cafe on 117th Street just north of Jasper. It is also the last week for my current show at Daffodil Gallery on 124th Street and 104 Ave. If you miss them, don’t despair — there are more shows in the works.

Sunny Flowers for a Rainy Day

Crocuses and Yellow Avalanche Lilies in Waterton National Park.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the gallery opening on Thursday night and today! It was great to talk with all of you. If you missed it, the show will continue into July.

The Daffodil Gallery is at 10412 124 Street. Gallery hours are 10:30am to 5:00pm Tuesday – Saturday.

Thursday. Show Opening. Come.

You are invited to the opening of 3, where I will be one of three featured artists, along with David Shkolny and Marjorie Thomson! I’d love to see any and all of you there! Featuring landscapes in photography, pastel, and watercolour.
